ANC statement on the passing of African anti-imperialist intellect Samir Amin

14 August 2018

As the African National Congress we dip our revolutionary banner in memory of the passing away of  the great African anti-imperialist intellect Samir Amin who sadly died on Sunday the 12th August 2018 at the age of 86.

A progressive intellectual, Comrade Samir was simultaneously an author of critical scholarship on alternative and radical development perspectives for the Third World and a fearless anticolonial fighter who inspired generations of progressive activists the world over.

The revolutionary movements, especially in the Third World, have been robbed of one of the last of those great minds in the fight for progressive socio-economic change.

Comrade Samir helped influence and shape the critical discourse so necessary to break free from imperialism. In this way he was not a mere arm chair revolutionary, but always there in the front line trenches.

We pass our deepest condolences to his family, friends and comrades whose loss is ours too. He may be gone but his ideas and profound humanity will continue to inspire generations of revolutionaries to carry on the fight for an alternative and progressive development path.
